The NDOC and Bodaboda Association of Kenya (BAK) Forge Strategic Partnership for Disaster Risk Management

The National Disaster Operations Center (NDOC) on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, hosted the President of the Bodaboda Association of Kenya (BAK), Mr. Kelvin Mubadi, for a courtesy visit aimed at exploring opportunities for collaboration in disaster management across the country.

The meeting brought together leaders from both institutions to discuss areas of mutual interest, with a strong focus on strengthening Disaster Risk Management (DRM) through strategic partnerships and information sharing.

During the discussions, Mr. Mubadi highlighted the critical role played by the bodaboda sector in Kenya's transport ecosystem. He noted that motorcycles have become one of the most widely used means of transport, providing essential mobility services that connect millions of Kenyans every day. From ferrying workers to their places of employment, taking children to school, transporting farm produce to markets, and providing emergency transport for patients to health facilities, bodabodas have become an indispensable part of the country's social and economic fabric.

The NDOC team, led by its Director, commended the remarkable growth of the Bodaboda Association of Kenya, whose membership has now reached approximately 2.5 million riders nationwide. The Director acknowledged the sector's immense contribution to Kenya's economy and recognized its vast potential as a valuable partner in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and community resilience.

Given the extensive reach of bodaboda riders across urban, peri-urban, and remote areas, both organizations agreed that the sector can play a pivotal role in disseminating early warning information, supporting emergency response operations, and enhancing communication during disasters.
